Description:

Here we have a live version of Lock and Key from the same tour as the Show of Hands vid from Birmingham, UK. This tune was not included on the official release of that show. When I first got this boot I was excited because I never really thought I'd be adding a show from this tour. The sound is in mono and only offers us so-so midrange; but who cares! It's yet another chance to see Rush perform live during this tour! I was going to sync this to an audio boot from the same venue, but doing that would be an act of futility. So I offer this to YTers "as is" from Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario Canada, the DVD boot show that is called "Beyond Our Fire." Enjoy!

I gues this is one of the most difficult songs for Geddy. Great post.

Very cool and a really good song. The sound is actually pretty good IMO.

Ahhhhh... you heard about Neil's stick set giveaways!! Being in the front two rows gives you a slight edge! I've been getting nothing but great reviews on the shows! Can't wait to hear more news as the NA tour winds down. Thanks!

I forgive Geddy for being so cold against synth play. This show is a prime example of the why's: He wants to rock it out. Keys play an important role but if he could only do tunes like Available Light, Second Nature, etc, without being strapped behind the boards... <Sigh> Thanks Bachyutt! Plan on seeing more from this show, other Presto, and a special surprise!

Dude, this comment coming from you is a sigh of relief and most certainly welcomed! There's another cut from the laser disk out-of-print release of ASOHs on YT and my offering is raw! Just the way I like it!! Makes me feel - there! Thanks buddy!

this, as with most of HYF, is a great song... as much as i love hard-rockin' retro Rush, i grew up on the synth-drenched 80s..

You and me both. However I will never downplay these years because it was integral to their growth. How many bands have dwindled away with the same sound? Same 3 note triads. Same guitar riffs. Same looks! When I say it sounds like Rush, I say it proudly because the sound and approaches are actually different: the tech end, the changes, the progressions, are ever evolving. That's their motiff! Sorry Def Leotard fans and the bolgna boys from the Hall of Shame... Rush can't be touched!

g/u/p may very well be my fav LP [this week]. been dorking out on a HYF boot lately, some of the synths and the low end just grab you...

Bah, I love the synth arrangements on HYF, GUP, PW, I just wish the digital metallic DX7 sounding garbage wasnt so big a fav of his in the latter part of the 80s and most of the 90s. Analog richness would be a good thing.....give me an Oberheim any old day.
